Musical duo Mirabai Ceiba performs music that originates in Kundalini yoga tradition and mantras. They visited Finland for the first time in 2013. This June they are coming back to perform as part of the Conscious Music Month.
We reached guitarist, singer Markus Sieber and singer, harpist, keyboardist Angelika Baumbach at their winter base in Tulum, Mexico as they were preparing for the coming European tour.
Sacred Chant Tour will take the couple and their band to Savoy Theater in Helsinki on June 15th. On the previous day they will give a Kundalini yoga workshop at Shanti, Helsinki.
Sat Nam, Markus. The Sacred Chant Tour is about to begin. How do you prepare for it and what kind of crew is traveling with you?
“There are always many logistic things to deal with before we go on tour. The great joy starts usually as soon as we get on the road, then we start to become creative with an open adventurous heart. Bogdan Djukic, our violinist and percussionist will be again with us. He is a wonderful musician and great friend, so it is always fun to travel with him. “
This is the second time you come to Finland. What do you specially remember about last May in Helsinki?
“We have great memories and we are very happy to be back again. The welcome last year was so heartwarming by everybody who was involved in the event, our producers, our hosts, the people at the venue, etc. The spirit of nature is so alive in Finland. We remember the soothing dark green of the vast forests, and the blessing of the rain on our concert day.”
The grace of Guru keeps you going but if we go more in detail what inspires you in making music and in life?
“The people, the miracle of life, the experience of an instant of eternity born out from the music, the space of love and healing awakened through the chanting all together. The music and the power of the mantras carry us. “
All music starts from silence. Everything starts from silence. What does silence mean to you?
“All sounds , the music, our own vibration is born out from silence and in the same way they lead us into this silence.
The silence contains everything and nothing, it is the most beautiful music, it leads us to the realm beyond life and death, beyond existence and none existence.
In fact it is the key point in our concerts to experience the silence after the mantra or song. Because the song, the music creates a space, and when the song is gone it leaves a space of silence, which gives us a taste of eternity. In this moment all our worries and fears about our life and ourselves suddenly disappear and we can experience a tremendous freedom. The freedom of the infinite spirit which we all are.”

Mirabai Ceiba created a little greeting for the Finnish audience at YouTube. |
Is there anything you’d like to say to the Finns that are expecting you here?
“We are looking very much forward to see many of you again, and get to know new people as well. And….by the way we will have a brand new Live in Concert Double Album under our belt when we go on tour now in May, and 2 tracks on the album have been recorded in Helsinki last year, which have become one of our favorites on the CD. “
